Jane Parkinson, Director, C.W. Waddington, Worksop

Hello, my name’s Jane Parkinson and I’m the third-generation owner of Waddington Menswear in Worksop in Nottinghamshire.

I’ve had to perform a thorough risk assessment, as per government guidelines, in consultation with our staff, and there are going to be many different protocols that we’re going to have to implement when we reopen later on in this month.

We’re going to have to ensure that all our customers and staff are kept two metres apart, so we’re therefore going to have to limit the number of people in the store at any one time.

We’re going to have two members of staff and a maximum of two customers. We’ve got the hand sanitising station as well, and instead of the customers being able to wonder freely round the shop, looking at the stock, we’re actually going to use this large table as a counter, in effect.

So, when customers come in, we will have this as almost a barrier between them and us. So, we’ll be asking them what they want, and we can bring any stock from either side of the shop to the table.

We’ll be wiping down all the door handles, both on the entrance doors and on the changing room doors. If anybody wants to try anything on, we’re more than happy to let them do that. And any items tried on that aren’t then bought will be taken upstairs and put on a separate rail, where we will keep it on there for 48 hours and then it will be steam-cleaned, left for a further 12 hours for it to dry thoroughly, and then brought back into stock.

It’s been a steep learning curve but we’ve had lots of helpful information and guidance from the Worksop Business Forum, and particular, the North Notts BID who have been brilliant in getting information out there.

We are going to be reopening on the 15th of June. We are really, really looking forward to seeing all our customers again and we have done everything in our power to make customers feel safe and secure when visiting our store, and we will be welcoming them back with open arms. Thank you.
